1864 Withdrawal (Tilbagetoget)

This year (2014) marks the 150 years since Denmark almost met it's end, in the fateful war of 1864.
Denmark alone was facing two of the greatest European powers at the time, Prussia and Austria.
Even though Denmark lost the war it is well remembered in danish history. Tales of the tough danish soldiers fighting a losing battle but still not willing to give up without a fight.
In honour of the brave men who fought in the war I made this piece.
It shows the successful danish retreat through the winter, their goal was to retreat to a stronghold where they had a better chance of fighting the enemy. While holding back the Austrians and Prussians trying to eliminate the entire danish army. It was no easy task in those winter conditions.
